Islamic calendar questions
What is today’s Islamic date?
Today, Saturday, 7 November 2026, is 27 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH in the UK. It is calculated with the Umm al-Qura calendar, so a UK mosque that follows local moon-sighting may be a day later.
When does Ramadan 2027 begin?
Ramadan is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027, which is in 93 days. UK mosques can follow different moon-sighting methods, so dates may differ by a day. Check with your local mosque.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on Tuesday, 9 March 2027, which is in 122 days. UK mosques can follow different moon-sighting methods, so dates may differ by a day. Check with your local mosque.
When is Eid al-Adha 2027?
Eid al-Adha is expected to fall on Sunday, 16 May 2027, which is in 190 days. UK mosques can follow different moon-sighting methods, so dates may differ by a day. Check with your local mosque.
When is Laylat al-Qadr 2027?
Laylat al-Qadr (27th night) is expected to fall on the evening of Friday, 5 March 2027, which is in 118 days. UK mosques can follow different moon-sighting methods, so dates may differ by a day. Check with your local mosque.
When is the Islamic New Year 1449 AH?
The Islamic New Year is expected to begin on Sunday, 6 June 2027, which is in 211 days. UK mosques can follow different moon-sighting methods, so dates may differ by a day. Check with your local mosque.
When is Ashura 2027?
The Day of Ashura is expected to fall on Tuesday, 15 June 2027, which is in 220 days. UK mosques can follow different moon-sighting methods, so dates may differ by a day. Check with your local mosque.
Why can the UK date differ from other countries?
Some mosques begin a month by sighting the new moon locally, others follow a calculation or a sighting made elsewhere. Because of this, the start of Ramadan and Eid can differ by a day. For fasting and Eid, follow the announcement of your own mosque.
When does the Islamic day begin?
At sunset. So the date shown here applies to the daytime, and the Hijri date changes after Maghrib. This is also why a “night” such as Laylat al-Qadr falls on the evening before its day.
How many months and days are in the Hijri year?
There are 12 months of 29 or 30 days, so a year has 354 or 355 days. That is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan and Eid move earlier each year.
How accurate are the prayer times?
They are calculated from the place you choose, and match standard methods. A mosque timetable can differ by a few minutes, and mosques choose different Fajr and Isha angles, so follow your local mosque for prayer.
Is this a religious ruling?
No. This page is a planning tool. It does not replace the announcement of a mosque or a qualified scholar.
