Adults and beginners
Private lessons that start where you are. You do not need to know Arabic, but you should be able to read the Quran.
Understand what you recite. A live one-to-one teacher on Zoom or Google Meet explains the meaning, context and lessons of the Quran in English, Urdu or Arabic. For adults and beginners who can read the Quran. Your first lesson is a free trial.
A translation gives you the meaning of the words in another language. Tafseer goes one step further. It explains the verse: what it means as a whole, the context it came in, and what it asks of you.
Many people read a translation and still have questions. Tafseer is where a teacher answers them. In a one-to-one lesson, you can ask as many as you like, and the teacher explains at your pace.
Tafseer builds on reading. Not reading the Quran yet? Start with Noorani Qaida. Want to recite correctly? See Tajweed. Want to memorise? See Hifz.
Every learner has a one-to-one plan, so the pace, the language and the teacher fit the learner.
Private lessons that start where you are. You do not need to know Arabic, but you should be able to read the Quran.
Ask for a female teacher in the trial form. Most of our teachers are female.
Start by learning to read, and move to meaning when you are ready. Nobody expects you to know Arabic already.
Meaning can be taught in simple steps after reading is steady. A parent sits beside a 4 or 5 year old.
Tell us your level, whether you prefer English, Urdu or Arabic, and the days that suit you. It takes two minutes and costs nothing.
A live one-to-one lesson on Zoom or Google Meet. You read a little, and say what you want from Tafseer.
Tafseer builds on reading the Quran. The teacher hears you read and says if you can start now or should strengthen your reading first.
Pick the lessons a week and a regular slot, evenings and weekends included. If the first teacher is not right, meet a second, also free.
Most learners begin with short surahs, and your teacher shapes the plan around what you want to understand.
Each lesson explains the verses you read, step by step. We do not set a fixed number of lessons for each surah. Your teacher moves on when you are ready.
Answer three quick questions. You will see where it is best to start. Your teacher confirms your level in the free trial.
You will see where it is best to start. This is only a guide.
Each Tafseer lesson moves from reading, to meaning, to your questions, to a note for home.
You read the verses for the lesson, with correction if needed.
The teacher explains the meaning, the words and the context.
You ask questions, one-to-one, with no group to hold you back.
A short note on what to review before the next lesson.
Our Tafseer teachers explain from their own knowledge of the Tafseer. Questions about sources are welcome: ask your teacher in the free trial which sources they rely on and how they handle different views.
Meaning is best learnt in conversation, so here is how a one-to-one lesson is run.
Tafseer lessons are £5 to £8 for each 45-minute one-to-one lesson, because the teacher explains meaning in depth, in English, Urdu or Arabic. The trial lesson is free.
Very few UK academies publish Tafseer prices. One that does, checked in October 2026, uses 30-minute lessons. Ours are 45 minutes, one-to-one.
| Lessons | Another UK academy (30 minutes) | Ayat Way Tafseer (45 minutes) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 lessons a week | £30 | £60 to £96 |
| 4 lessons a week | £35 | £80 to £128 |
| 5 lessons a week | £40 | £100 to £160 |
This is one academy, so it is a rough guide, not a market average. Its lessons are shorter and cost less per month, so compare lesson length, the teacher and the language as well as the price. Our Tafseer fees are higher because each lesson is one-to-one, 45 minutes, with a teacher who explains in depth. Prices change, so check before you decide.
We confirm the exact price before you pay. If you are not happy, we refund you. See all fees for every course.
