Who are online Quran classes for adults for?

For any adult who wants to read the Quran, whether you are starting today or coming back after many years.

Complete beginners

You have never read Arabic. We start with the letters and sounds, at an adult pace.

Reverts and new Muslims

You are new to Islam and want to read the Quran for yourself. You begin with Noorani Qaida, with a patient teacher.

Rusty readers

You learned as a child and have forgotten. The teacher finds where you are now and restarts from there.

Improving recitation

You read, but want clear pronunciation. Tajweed rules are taught gently, with live correction.

Sisters

You can ask for a female teacher in the trial form. Most of our teachers are female.

Busy professionals and parents

Lessons are one-to-one, so you choose a regular slot that fits your week, including evenings and weekends.

Learning with your child? See online Quran classes for kids. New to Arabic? See Noorani Qaida for beginners.

Where should an adult start learning the Quran?

Find the line that sounds like you. In the free trial the teacher listens to you read and confirms the right starting point.

How adults get started

  1. 1
    Book the free trial

Tell us your age range, your level and the days that suit you. It takes two minutes, and you pay nothing.

  2. 2
    Meet a teacher

A live one-to-one lesson on Zoom or Google Meet. Read a little, ask anything and say if you would like a female or a male teacher.

  3. 3
    Find your starting point

The teacher listens to you read and suggests where to begin. If you have never read Arabic, you start with the letters and Noorani Qaida.

  4. 4
Choose a plan and a weekly time

Pick how many lessons a week suit you and a regular slot around work and family. If the first teacher is not right, meet a second, also free.

  5. 5
    Learn, and keep going

Lessons begin. Your teacher tells you what to practise before the next lesson, so every week builds on the last.

From the first letter to confident recitation

Adult Quran learning follows a clear order. If you are new to Arabic you start at step 1. If you already read, you join further along. After Noorani Qaida you choose whether the next focus is reading, Tajweed or Hifz.

  1. 1Arabic lettersRecognising each letter and the sound it makes.
  2. 2Short vowels and Noorani QaidaReading letters with fatha, kasra and damma, the base of fluent reading.
  3. 3Joining letters and wordsLetters change shape when they join. You begin to read real Arabic words.
  4. 4Reading the Quran (Nazra)Reading verses with a teacher who corrects each mistake as it happens.
  5. 5Tajweed rulesPronunciation and the rules that make recitation correct.
  6. 6Hifz or meaning (optional)A routine for memorising, or the meaning and context of what you read.

How long each step takes depends on where you start, how many lessons you take a week and how much you practise. We do not promise a fixed timeline.

What a one-to-one Quran lesson for adults looks like

Adult lessons follow a calm pattern: a short revision, new reading, correction and a plan for the week.

  1. 1Revise

The teacher checks what you learned last time, so nothing is lost.

  2. 2Learn something new

A small new piece: a letter, a rule, a line of a surah.

  3. 3Read aloud

You read, and the teacher corrects pronunciation straight away.

  4. 4Plan your practice

A short recap, then a little to practise before the next lesson.

Ten questions to ask any Quran academy

  1. Can I choose a female or a male teacher?
  2. Are lessons one-to-one, or in a group?
  3. How will the teacher check my reading level, and will I hear the result before I pay?
  4. How long is each lesson, and what is the price per lesson?
  5. What happens if I miss or need to move a lesson?
  6. What is the refund policy?
  7. Are lessons recorded, and who can see a recording?
  8. Is there a free trial, and do I need to give card details?
  9. Can I meet a different teacher if the first is not right?
  10. Does the academy show who its teachers are?

Ask us these in your free trial. We are happy to answer.

How you make progress as an adult

Steady lessons and a little daily practice matter more than speed. These things help most.

  • A regular weekly time. The same slot each week keeps your routine.
  • Ten minutes of practice a day. Read what the teacher set, aloud if you can.
  • Ask for the next step. At the end of each lesson, ask what to practise and what comes next.
  • More lessons a week, faster progress. If your week allows it, add a lesson. Your teacher can suggest when.

Want to understand what you read? Add Tafseer or an Arabic tutor later, with the same teachers.

Online Quran classes for adults: your questions

Is it too late to learn the Quran as an adult?

No. Adults learn to read the Quran at every age. You start at your own level, whether that is the first Arabic letter or reading with a few mistakes, and the teacher sets a pace that suits you.

Can I start if I cannot read Arabic at all?

Yes. You begin with the Arabic letters and Noorani Qaida, which teaches the letters, vowel signs and how they join. Only then do you move on to reading verses.

I am a new Muslim. Where do I start?

With the letters and Noorani Qaida, at an adult pace, with a teacher who knows you are new. Say so in the trial form, and ask for a female or male teacher if you prefer.

I learned as a child and forgot. Can I restart?

Yes. In the free trial the teacher listens to you read and finds where you are now. You do not repeat what you already know.

Are the lessons one-to-one or in a group?

Always one-to-one. There is no group, so you never read in front of other learners and the whole lesson is for you.

What if I feel embarrassed about learning as an adult?

Many adults feel this way. Lessons are private and live with one teacher, and mistakes are a normal part of learning. If the first teacher does not feel right, you can meet a second, also free.

Can I have a female Quran teacher?

Yes. Choose a female teacher in the trial form. You can also ask for a male teacher or choose no preference. Most of our teachers are female.

How long is each lesson?

Each lesson is 45 minutes, live and one-to-one, on Zoom or Google Meet.

How many lessons a week should I take?

There is no single right number. More lessons a week means faster progress, but a steady routine you can keep matters more. After the free trial, your teacher can suggest a number that fits your goals and your week.

Can I have lessons in the evening or at the weekend?

Yes. Choose a regular time around work, family and prayer times. We confirm availability when you book. Weekend lessons cost 50p more per lesson.

How long will it take to read the Quran fluently?

It depends on where you start, how many lessons you take each week and how much you practise. We do not promise a fixed timeline. After the free trial your teacher can give you an honest view of the steps ahead.

Can I learn Tajweed as a beginner?

Yes, in order. Most beginners first learn to read the letters and words, and Tajweed rules are added as your reading becomes steady. If you already read, you can begin with Tajweed straight away.

Can an adult learn Hifz?

Yes. Adults memorise at every age. A good Hifz routine adds a little new learning each week and keeps revision strong, fitted around your work and family.

How does the teacher check my level?

In the free trial you read a little, and the teacher listens to your letters, your pronunciation and how smoothly you read. Then they suggest where to begin.

Which app do you use for lessons?

Lessons run on Zoom or Google Meet. You need a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and internet, and a quiet place to sit.

How much do online Quran classes for adults cost in the UK?

Ayat Way lessons are £3 to £9 for each 45-minute one-to-one lesson. Most adults start on Standard lessons at £3 to £5, so two lessons a week for four weeks is £24 to £40 a month. Weekend lessons cost 50p more per lesson. The calculator on this page works it out for any plan and any day.

Can family members learn together?

Yes. If two or three family members, such as brothers or sisters, learn together, we can offer a discount. Tell us in the trial form and we will confirm the price.

What are the trial and recording rules for adult lessons?

The first lesson is a free trial and you can try a second teacher. We do not record lessons, and our safeguarding and free trial pages explain the rest.
